The Next England Manager

Posted on by conan

Following the shock resignation of their manager just months before the European Championships, England are on the hunt for the best possible candidate to help end their 46 year blues.

All the talk is that Tottenham’s Harry Redknapp must surely be named as Fabio Capello’s successor. But is he the right man for the job?

Just a quick note to anyone listening to the podcast. I said that Capello met with David Dein, instead of David Bernstein!! Wee slip of the tongue.

I’m surprised to hear Conan suggesting Rafa and just as surprised to hear how quickly Ciaran was won over (he took over a Valencia side that had been to the two previous Champions League finals, fluked a Champions League against a mentally weak Milan and needed a Roy of the Rovers moment from Steve “Roy of the Rovers” Gerrard to take the West Ham FA cup final to penalties). If current unemployment and cup pedigree is the crux of a CV for the job then why didn’t you mention Guus Hiddink? Being beaten by Slovenia in 2009 (at Russia) and a very good Croatia in 2011 at (Turkey) wouldn’t inspire in me the admiration the man seems to hold in the football world but still a great track record and surely better than Benitez. No?
Anyway, that was superfluous argument from me since Humble Harry is going to get the job anyway.

The media group in Derry would needto up their game cernidosably. The first issue of the city of culture magazine that i picked up in cof derry airport was shambolic. the first double page spread of this massive magazine was a sprawl of furniture from a industrial surniture store. we should have more discerning editorial choices when it comes to presenting our city. the magazine like pure magazine etc, is a blatant money grabbing publication (either to cover publishing costs or profit) but this shouldnt reflect the image we present of our city. the city of culture is not about furniture or what removal or gammy interviews with gym proprietors or bar men. we need insight not fillers. more effort next time please. this bid will expose us to Europe and beyond, we want to present ourselves as professional, cultural and with a little bit more cash than to have to sell out for ad spreads for 50 pound to cover th publishing fees. either get this magazine public money or have a little bit more discretion when it comes to prioritising coverage culture not capitalism.
